Tobacco Farmers Continue to Push For an Exit Plan

Area tobacco farmers are taking their frustrations back to the streets. Federal Agriculture Minister Chuck Strahl is calling the exit plan wanted by the Ontario Flue Cured Tobacco Growers' Marketing Board too rich. In an effort to step up their message to all levels of government that an exit plan is desperately needed, area tobacco farmers, business reps, and board members have planned another round of rallies. The first will be tomorrow from 10-12 (Wed) in Simcoe outside the offices of local MPP Toby Barrett and local MP Diane Finley. On Friday they will demontrate in Tillsonburg at the office of Oxford MP David MacKenzie. Then on Monday in St Thomas they will gather at the office of Elgin-Middlesex-London MP Joe Preston, and simultaneously at the office of MPP Steve Peters. All demonstrations will take place from 10am until noon. We'll hear from President of the local Tobacco Board later this afternoon on CD 98.9. Enditem
