Leaf Tobacco Down, But Not Quite Out Source from: tobaccoreporter.com Australia, Monday, February 26, 2007 02/28/2007 A tobacco grower in Myrtleford, Victoria, is investigating whether it would be possible to sell leaf tobacco overseas after domestic sales are shut down, according to a Border Mail report.
Carlo Mancuso, who recently spent five weeks overseas, says that interest had been shown by two companies in Asia and the Middle East.
In October, tobacco growers in the north east of Victoria voted to accept an exit package from the Federal Government and British American Tobacco. And the Border Mail reported that the terms of the Government's tobacco restructuring grant required growers to stop producing tobacco.
However, Mancuso said he would be prepared to forego his payout if he could continue growing tobacco because his farm had been set up to grow tobacco, not other crops. Enditem
