Growers Call for Early Start to Auctions

Tobacco growers in Zimbabwe are pushing for an early opening of the auction floors in Harare, which are due to start only in April, because they fear that rampant inflation could wipe out profits should the harvested crop stay on their farms for too long, according to a Zimbabwe Independent report. Growers who harvested their irrigated crops between November and December last year said they were concerned about the effect of rising interest rates on loans secured to finance tobacco growing.
