State official: Philip Morris to Make Smokeless Tobacco at York Plant Source from: wdbj7.com YORK, Va. 02/13/2007 Philip Morris U-S-A is planning to make a smokeless tobacco product called Taboka at its 144-thousand-square-foot plant in York.
That's according to a memo written by a state official and obtained by the Daily Press newspaper.
The plant -- which has been idle since 2004 -- will reopen later this year.
The company won't reveal what it intends to manufacture at the York facility, citing competitive reasons.
But a memo written in December by the executive director of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership says Philip Morris will make the smokeless tobacco product, Taboka.
The plant should create 180 new jobs.
Philip Morris began test-marketing Taboka in July in Indianapolis. Enditem
