The Tobacco Growers' Association of North Carolina (TGANC) presented TFQ editor Matt Mullen with its prestigious Media Service Award during its annual meeting today at the Southern Farm Show in Raleigh. Matt received the award for his "fair, accurate and comprehensive" coverage of tobacco farming in North Carolina. During the trip, a group of U.S. tobacco farmers visited House of Prince in Denmark and Philip Morris International in Switzerland to learn how to better meet these and other customers' leaf requirements. Matt's report was published in TFQ's third quarter 2006 issue under the title, "Going the extra mile." Because Matt was out of the country on a business trip during the award ceremony, TFQ publisher Noel Morris accepted the award on his behalf. Noel expressed her appreciation and promised continued quality coverage of the American leaf tobacco sector. Matt is the second TFQ reporter to receive a TGANC award. Agricultural writer Rocky Womack, who is a regular contributor to TFQ, is also a TGANC Media Service Award recipient. Enditem
