Looking to Produce 70 Million Kg Source from: tobaccoreporter.com Zimbabwe, Friday, January 12, 2007 01/16/2007 Zimbabwe is expected to produce about 70 million kg of tobacco during the current season, up from about 55 million kg last season, according to a report in The Herald quoting the Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers' Union president, Wilson Nyabonda.
Nyabonda said 47,000 ha had been planted to tobacco so far out of a target of 55,000 ha, against plantings of 44,000 ha last season. Growers were still planting because of the erratic nature of the rainfall at the beginning of the season.
And they were facing a number of other challenges, he added, including a shortage of coal for curing. Enditem
