UNIDO to Help Fund Shift to Float Trays in Zimbabwe Source from: tobaccoreporter.com Thursday, November 23, 2006 11/27/2006 Nearly 15,000 tobacco farmers and small-scale miners in Zimbabwe are set to benefit from projects funded with US$4 million from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), according to a report in The Herald.
In part, the money will be used to help small- and large-scale tobacco farmers shift from traditional methods of raising tobacco seedlings to float-tray technology.
The head of UNIDO in Southern Africa, Stefano Bologna, said the shift to float-tray technology would help farmers increase their incomes while enhancing the competitiveness of Zimbabwean tobacco. It would also help Zimbabwe meet its Montreal Protocol obligations to phase out the use of methyl bromide by 2015. Enditem
