Tobacco Growers to Vote on Export Program Source from: tobaccofarmquarterly.com Nov. 1, 2006 11/03/2006 A Tobacco Associates Export Promotion Referendum will be held Wednesday across North Carolina that will allow tobacco growers to decide if they wish to continue assessment programs for promoting their crop in the world market.
State law requires a referendum be held every three years, according to The Daily Reflector newspaper in Greenville, N.C.
The referendum is open to all tobacco farmers 18 years or older at the time of the vote who are engaged in producing flue-cured tobacco during 2006 and were listed on the Farm Service Agency Form 578.
A two-thirds favorable vote will continue the assessment of 20 cents per 100 pounds, according to the newspaper. Enditem
