Malawi Minister Confirms Processing Ambitions

The member of parliament for Lilongwe City Central, Boniface Kadzamira, has called on Malawi's government to stop threatening tobacco buyers in an attempt to solve the industry's problems, according to a report by Deborah Nyangulu. He has suggested that the answer lies in attracting new buyers, including those from China. Agriculture Minister, Uladi Mussa, agreed that a lack of competition was killing the industry. But he said the government was in the process of setting up a processing plant so that farmers would not have to go to existing buyers for processing their tobacco. Enditem
