Early Planting Urged Source from: tobaccoreporter.com Monday, August 28, 2006 08/29/2006 Leading tobacco-buying firms urged Philippine farmers to plant their leaf before Nov. 30, reports the Philippine Star.
Representatives of Anglo-American Tobacco Corp., Universal Leaf Philippines and Trans-Manila made their suggestion during an agronomy conference at the National Tobacco Administration's central office in Quezon City.
They also argued for a heavy application of commercial fertilizers. NTA agronomists, by contrast, pushed for the use more organic fertilizers, saying commercial fertilizer was expensive to the farmers and had been damaging organic matter in the soil. Enditem
