Karnataka Crop Estimate Lowered Source from: tobaccoreporter.com Monday, August 21, 2006 08/22/2006 Unhelpful weather in parts of Karnataka mean that the state's flue-cured crop estimate has been reduced by 5-6 million kg from the official target of 84 million kg, according to a report in The Hindu Business Line.
But this shortfall, and the high prices paid in Andhra Pradesh earlier this year, are said to point to sharply increased prices. Mr Javare Gowda, the president of the Karnataka FCV Tobacco Growers' Association and Tobacco Board member, said he thought that the average price in Karnataka this season would be above Rs65.00 per kg, up from Rs48.06 last season.
