BAT to Buy Northern Leaf

THE British American Tobacco Uganda (BATU) will this season spend sh5.2b in buying tobacco from northern farmers this season, reports James Oloch. Lazarus Ojek, the area leaf manager for middle north, said the buying kicked off last week at Odokomit Central Zone Store in Lira Municipality. He said they targeted to buy two tonnes daily for three months. Ojek said farmers from Pader, Kitgum, Apac and Lira would earn over sh2.5b. He said BATU would meet the transportation cost for farmers up to the buying zone. Ojek said BATU had injected over sh1b in loans to increase farmers?productivity. in term of loans. He said that the said loans would be recovered from their sales. Lazzarus Oketch Ojek said that BAT does not charge any interest rate on the loan.
