Malawi's Government in Direct Action Source from: tobaccoreporter.com Monday, July 3, 2006 07/04/2006 The Malawi government is going to increase the number of tobacco buyers operating in the country and then procure for them the machinery for tobacco processing, according to a local report quoting the Minister of Finance, Goodall Gondwe.
Gondwe said this during an interview while attending the 18th Tobacco Association of Malawi annual congress in Lilongwe.
He said the government was going to beef-up competition among tobacco buyers as a way of overcoming the problem of low prices, and added that officials were already intervening directly by going out to find new buyers, particularly in the Far East. Enditem
