PMI to close Dothan cigar facility Source from: Tobacco Reporter 04/14/2026 Philip Morris International U.S. (PMI U.S.) will close its cigar manufacturing facility in Dothan, Alabama, reports WDHN. “The decision to close our manufacturing operations in Dothan reflects our focus on operating efficiently and sustainably across all aspects of our business and on accelerating the growth of our smoke-free business in America,” said Peter Luongo, Managing Director, Cigars, PMI U.S. “This change does not diminish the pride we have in the work done in Dothan. The dedication, craftsmanship, and teamwork of our colleagues here have had a meaningful impact on our business.” The company says 54 employees will be affected, while 20 employees will remain in Dothan for business needs; impacted staff will receive severance, extended salary continuation, a period of company-paid health insurance and outplacement services. The plant has been a longstanding production site, originally part of General Cigar before Swedish Match acquired it in 1999 and PMI U.S. took ownership in 2023. The factory produced cigars for brands such as Game and White Owl. An official closure date has not been released, but shutdown activities will proceed over the coming months. |
