Drop In Cigarettes Sales Halved In Ireland Over The Past Decade – Despite Sales Of Over €1.4Billion Last Year

CIGARETTES sales have halved in Ireland over the past decade – despite sales of over €1.4billion last year.

There were over six billion single cigarettes sold in 2007 but that number plummeted to 2.8 billion sticks in 2017.

But a new Euromonitor report shows that smokers in Ireland still forked out €1.4 billion on their addiction last year.

The study does predict that Ireland’s smoking habits will continue to decline with cigarette sales predicted to slump to 2.3 billion sticks in 2022.

The one per cent fall is predicted due to increased product substitution and a “stringent regulatory environment”.

Ireland is currently ranked at No51 in the world in terms of sales, at 577 cigarette sticks per capita per year.  Enditem
