Former Smokers Prefer Fruity E-Cigarette Cartridges Over Tobacco Flavors, Study Says

It seems that everywhere you go nowadays, you’ll end up walking through a cloud of sweet, fruity scented vapor. E-cigarettes are on the rise, and many cigarette smokers are making the switch to a slightly healthier alternative.

But according to a new study, if vape companies continue to put out tobacco flavored options, former smokers might be more likely to make the switch back to traditional cigarettes.

The research was conducted by the Centre for Substance Use Research (CSUR). It looked at the impact that different flavors have on smokers making the switch to vapor.

"The results show that non-tobacco flavors, especially fruit based flavors, are being increasingly preferred to tobacco flavors by adult vapers who have completely switched from combustible cigarettes to vapor products," said Dr. Christopher Russell, Deputy Director of CSUR, who led the research.

The study looked at both the flavors that vapers currently used as well as the first one they tried when they made the switch. Of the more than 20,000 people they surveyed, 16,000 had switched over from cigarettes completely, while roughly 5,000 were still using both.

They found that 83 percent of vapers bought fruit or fruit drink flavored liquids, making it the most popular. 69 percent bought pastry or dessert flavored liquids. Tobacco and menthol flavors were fifth and sixth most popular.

"The data suggest that U.S. vapers' journeys towards quitting smoking are increasingly likely to start with, progress to, or be sustained by frequent use of vaping devices containing non-tobacco flavors", said Dr Russell.

As an added bonus, fruit flavored vapor smells better to passers by.  Enditem
