Philip Segal, Founder Of Havana Phil''s Cigar Company, Has Died

Philip Segal III, founder of Havana Phil's Cigar Company on Battleground Avenue in Greensboro, died Wednesday at age 60.

A Greensboro native, Segal transformed the old Anton's restaurant into an upscale cigar shop, refurbishing the building while retaining many of Anton’s distinctive architectural elements.

Havana Phil's opened in the prime Battleground Avenue location in 2016. Segal moved the store two miles south from his original Havana Phil's on Battleground Avenue, which he founded in 2010.

The shop sells handmade premium cigars and accessories, including pipes, pipe tobacco and other gift items. The shop also is one of 220 merchants in the country selected to sell the exclusive Davidoff of Geneva brand.

He is survived by his mother, Corinne Segal; his wife, Kimberley Banks Segal; his children, Pepper Segal, Philip MIchael Segal IV and Elizabeth Segal; a brother; and two grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Temple Emanuel, 1121 Jefferson Road, Greensboro. Interment will follow in Hebrew Cemetery..  Enditem
