French E-Cigarette Alert After Battery Explosions Source from: The Connexion 08/08/2017 ![]() The French fraud office has called on electronic cigarette ‘vape’ users to be extra careful after two new cases of exploding batteries were reported. The two latest explosions happened when the vapes were in their user’s pockets, according to the DGCCRF (Direction Générale de la Consommation, de la Concurrence et de la Répression des Fraudes - General Director of Consumption, Competition and the Repression of Fraud). There are over 3 million vape - or e-cigarette - users in France, according to Santé Publique France. Users should store vape batteries in a separate box and not in a fabric bag or in clothes pockets, according to the DGCCRF, as well as avoiding their contact with metal objects - such as coins and keys - and sources of heat. Users should also avoid tampering with batteries or trying to open them, the advice said. “Even though battery explosions are rare compared to the number of products in circulation, they can have serious consequences,” warned the DGCCRF, in a statement.
