India: Over 3L Students to Shun Tobacco

Over 3 lakh students from over 2,709 schools across the district are set to take oath to shun tobacco as a new year resolution.

As part of 'Tambakhu mukt jeevan sankalap din' to be observed on December 31, students, parents, teachers and villagers will participate in the mass oath taking at 11 am. The oath, recorded in the voice of Yavatmal Zilla Parishad chief executive officer, Mallinath Kalshetti, would be administered to all.

During the function, the participants would be made aware about the ill effects of tobacco and its products.

While talking to TOI, CEO, primary education officer, Sujita Patekar said, "Considering the large number of probable participants, we are in touch with officials of the Limca Book of World Records and India Book of World Records as the event may create a new record."

A Mumbai-based NGO 'Salam Mumbai Foundation' has extended help to the programme. Enditem
