India: Food Department Continues Crackdown on Tobacco Products

The state food department continued its raid for tobacco products on Saturday at different junctions in the city.
 
Following the ban issued by the SC on May 10, sale of tobacco products including supari, jarda, pan masala have been banned in the state.
 
The food department first conducted raid on May 13 and ceased tobacco products from almost 30 shops from different areas in the city. Continuing with their raid on May16, the department officials raided 15 shops in the city and seized products worth Rs 75, 000.
 
"Areas of Mithapur bus stand, Karbigahiya, Chiraiya Taar Bridge, Boring Road, Boring Canal Road and Kankarbagh were raided on Saturday. We raid the areas as and when we get information and will continue doing so unless we are sure that tobacco sale has completely stopped," said Mukesh Kashyap, food department official.
 
When iamin.in correspondent asked what would be done to these seized products, Kashyap added that if nobody comes to claim these products, it would be destroyed, also these products expire very soon so it's better to destroy it. Enditem
