Virginia Tobacco Commission Committee Tells Southwest Health Alliance to Reapply

The Virginia Tobacco Commission's Southwest Economic Development Committee voted this afternoon to rescind the Alliance for Rural Health's grant and ask them to reapply.

The discussion of the alliance's future funding took about an hour of the committee meeting.

Afterward, members of the alliance said they'll return to the meeting Tuesday morning to hear what the full commission has to say. At the May commission meeting -- the last that included a vote about the proposed medical school turned alliance -- the committee's recommendation to eliminate the grant was overturned by the full commission the next day.
