UK: NHS Study Shows Low E-cig Use Among Non Smokers Source from: The Tobacco Reporter 12/15/2014 ![]() E-cigarettes may be the music of the future, but they are not ringing the bells of former smokers and persons who never smoked, according to the latest Health Survey for England from the National Health Service (NHS). Three per cent of the adult population were using e-cigarettes in 2013, the period covered by the survey that compiled responses from 8,795 adults. Most people reporting having used e-cigs were current smokers -- 29 per cent of respondents in that category. With former smokers, the percentage fell to 6 per cent. Survey participants who said they never smoked but had tried e-cigarettes represented 1 per cent of male respondents and less than 1 per cent of females. 'Although current use of electronic cigarettes is at a very low level, advertising and awareness of them has been increasing', the survey says. 'Due to little restriction on advertising and their use being allowed in most enclosed public spaces such as bars, restaurants and public transport, some also argue that their uptake could re-normalise smoking.'
