China: Qilin Subcompany Organizes Donation to Earthquake Victims

Qilin County Tobacco Subcompany of Qujing City Tobacco Company in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province, which doubles as Qilin County Tobacco Monopoly Administration, held a ceremony to collect donations destined to victims of a recently powerful earthquake hitting parts of Yunnan.

On August 3, a magnitude 6.5 earthquake hit Ludian County in Zhaotong City of Yunnan, causing serious losses of life and property in the disaster areas. The death toll now stands at 617. A total of 112 people are still missing and 935 are still hospitalized, down from more than 3,000 initially injured. The fatalities and injuries were registered in Ludian County, Qiaojia County, Zhaoyang County and Yongshan County in Zhaotong City and Huize County in Qujing City, where tens of thousands of houses collapsed, and hundreds of thousands of people were evacuated.

In response, the Communist Party Committee of Ludian County Tobacco Subcompany was active in taking actions, and organized the ceremony to collect donations. In all, the workers and staff members of the subcompany offered donations to the tune of over 30150 yuan. By doing so, they realized the spirit that "Where any part of China is in hardship, aid will flow in from all directions; although disaster is merciless, there is always a loving heart" in preparedness against earthquake and in disaster relief.
