<strong>China: Chinese Tobacco Industry''s Taxes and Profits Payment Surge in First Half Year</strong>

The State Tobacco Monopoly Administration said in a news release on July 28, the tobacco manufacturing sector and commercial sector generated 579.54 billion yuan in taxes and profits in first half year of 2014, increased of 48.82 billion yuan, or up 9.2%, year-on-year.

At the same time, tobacco industry regulated the tobacco industry management behavior strictly, controlled business spending effectively, and all cost fallen sharply, including business entertainment decreased 67.95% year-on-year, promotion fees decreased 41.76% year-on-year, and meeting fees decreased 57.09% year-on-year.

In the first half, China produced 1296.9 billion cigarettes, a growth of 0.2% year-on-year, including 1082.05 billion cigarettes of 28 key brands, up 1.55% year-on-year. The output of low tar cigarette, which is less than 8mg per cigarette, decreased 181.8 billion cigarettes, up 1.01% year-on-year.

In 2014, 1.66 million copies of tobacco purchase contracts were signed, the actual tobacco planting area was 18.37 million mu (1.22 million ha), decreased 2.55 million mu (0.17million ha), and the tobacco planting area was in the preliminary arrangement plan planned in early 2014.

The tobacco industry earnestly fulfilled it duty of tobacco control, and has made positive progresses on cracking down illicit tobacco trade, controlling the growth of tobacco consumption, reducing tar and other harmful substances content in the cigarette, preventing students of middle and primary school from smoking, etc..
