Dominican Republic: World''s First Cigarette Exporter

The Dominican Republic is the world's first cigarette exporter for three consecutive years, executive director of the National Council of Export Duty-Free zones, Luisa Fernandez, noted.

Quoted today by the press, the official highlighted the Dominican Republic produces half of the 10 best products of this type internationally.

Fernandez recalled that cigarette exports increased 15,9 percent from January to September 2013 in comparison to the same period in 2012.

According to the official, the country exported 200 million and three million hand-made cigarettes and also those produced with machines equivalent to 230 million and 600 million USD respectively.

This type of production and that of cigars is the second activity of duty-free zones that creates more jobs, Fernandez underlined. Enditem
