<strong>China：Agreement Signed on Establishment of Joint Laboratory</strong>

Zhengzhou Tobacco Research Institute of China National Tobacco Corporation and the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences signed in Beijing on December 18 an agreement on cooperation in establishing an ecological environment and tobacco quality joint laboratory.

President Yan Yaming of Zhengzhou Tobacco Research Institute and Director Wang Daolong of the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning attended the ceremony for signing the agreement and respectively delivered speeches.

Vice-President Xie Jianping of Zhengzhou Tobacco Research Institute and Deputy Director Zhou Qingbo of the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning signed the agreement respectively on behalf of the two sides.

Division chief Cheng Duofu from the Department of Science and Technology of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA) was present at the signing ceremony.

Zhengzhou Tobacco Research Institute and the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning have maintained relations of long-term friendly cooperation. The two sides have jointly assumed the tasks of executing many projects designated by the STMA, including the project of "China tobacco growing zoning" and the project of "research of the ecological characteristics of typical zones of production of leaf tobacco with different types of aroma", making breakthrough achievements in research of the ecological environment and leaf tobacco quality.

In particular, the project of "China tobacco growing zoning" won a Grade One prize for scientific-technological progress awarded by China National Tobacco Corporation for the year 2009.

In cooperation in establishing the ecological environment and tobacco quality joint laboratory, the two sides will make a full use of their advantages in resources in the capacity of national-level research institutes and will strive to establish a scientific-technological innovation alliance with mutual complement in academic disciplines.

The joint laboratory is intended for in-depth cooperation in research in the fields of the ecological basis for high quality leaf tobacco, protection and development of the soil environment in tobacco fields, research and development of ecological and environment-friendly fertilizers, in accordance with the relationship between leaf tobacco quality and the ecological environment, to promote the capacity of Zhengzhou Tobacco Research Institute to higher levels, and to enhance the scientific-technological competitiveness of the tobacco industry of China.

At the signing ceremony, the two sides determined the major research orientations and working targets of the joint laboratory. Enditem
