<strong>China: STMA Reports Cleaner Production Situation</strong>

On December 12, the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA) reported the investigation on cigarette industry enterprise's cleaner production. The report showed that, since the enforcement of the "cigarette enterprise cleaner production evaluation standard", cigarette enterprises have seriously implemented the relevant standards.

This research evaluation including self-evaluation of enterprise and site investigation of STMA working group. STMA working group investigated 9 cigarette factories.

According to the results of comprehensive evaluation, China Tobacco of Zhejiang Industrial Corp. and Shanghai Tobacco Group gained high records on the cleaner production evaluation in 3 years in a row. According to the evaluation standard, four provincial industrial companies are AAAA, 13 provincial industrial companies are AAA; 59 cigarette factories are AAAA. Overall, enterprises of  the cigarette industry did a good job on resource energy utilization, waste control and environmental management system.

The report stressed that the tobacco industry must further strengthen cleaner production work, and promote the construction of "resource saving" and "environmentally friendly" enterprises, and promote the change of the pattern of economic development. Enditem
