<strong>China: STMA Sets 2014 Cigarette Packing Recycling Goals for Tobacco Industry</strong>

Cigarette packing recycling is the important embodiment of the construction of circular economy system for tobacco industry in China. On October 23, a notice issued by the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration, requests tobacco industry to recycle 10 million units cigarette packing in 2014, and sets specific tasks for provincial industrial and commercial enterprises, puts forward the specific requirements.

The notice stressed that the provincial industrial and commercial enterprises should attach great importance to this work, and to take strong measures to ensure to reach targets: the recycling scale of cigarette packing in same province (autonomous regions and municipalities) above 50% in 2014; and the recycling scale of cigarette packing between provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) above 50% in 2015.

The notice required that manufacturing enterprises should strengthen cooperation with commercial enterprises on reasonable arrangements for transporting the recycled cigarette packaging.
