<strong>China: STMA Sponsors Cigarette Factory Directors Training Program</strong> Source from: TobaccoChina Online 09/18/2013 The State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA) – the regulator of China's tobacco industry – sponsored in Beijing a program of training of directors of cigarette factories of China's tobacco industry on September 5-6, which was focused on major subjects of reform and development of the tobacco industry. Executed by the Economic Operation Department of the STMA, the training program was intended to further promote lean management of cigarette factories, promote activities of creating excellent cigarette factories to higher levels, and develop an updated version of management of cigarette factories. Director Wang Ping of the Economic Operation Department of the STMA fully affirmed the achievements in the activities of creating excellent cigarette factories by the tobacco industry since the beginning of 2013. He proposed that in a next period of time, the work of creating excellent cigarette factories will have lean management as the basis and major content, and will be promoted in an in-depth way. Efforts should be made to actively shift the conception of development, in striving to develop new management guidelines and management methods suitable for the development of enterprises, arouse the enthusiasm of workers for innovation, and keep injecting new driving force and vigor into the development of cigarette factories, Wang Ping said. Efforts should also be made to tap in an in-depth way the potential of the cost of production, product quality, energy consumption, material consumption, efficiency of production and equipment, etc, implement the conception of lean management throughout the whole process of production, actively pursue advanced indexes and bring into play the role of bonuses of corporate management, according to Wang Ping. He also urged efforts to comprehensively introduce the conception of lean management, develop an updated version of management of cigarette factories, highlight lean manufacturing, pursue first-rate management, promote and apply achievements in research under exclusive subjects in an in-depth way, and promote lean management. Experts on lean management were particularly invited to give exclusive lectures on typical cases of lean management and practice herein. The participants in the training program included leaders of the Economic Operation Department of the STMA, leaders of China Tobacco Industry Development Center, directors of the cigarette factories affiliated to all provincial-level China Tobacco regional corporations, leaders of the tobacco machinery companies affiliated to China Tobacco Group Co., Ltd. and leaders of some leaf tobacco redrying enterprises.
