<strong>China-U.S. Joint Laboratory in Tobacco Molecular Breeding Holds Annual Meeting</strong> Source from: TobaccoChina Online 08/08/2013 China-U.S. joint laboratory in tobacco molecular breeding at Yunnan Academy of Tobacco Agricultural Sciences in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province held its 2013 annual meeting in Yunnan's provincial capital city of Kunming on July 25-26 to discuss cutting-edge issues in the field of tobacco sciences and strengthening of China-U.S. academic exchange and cooperation herein. Participating in the meeting were more than 80 well-known experts and scholars from North Carolina State University in the United States, Zhejiang University and Fujian University of Agriculture and Forestry as well as from Yunnan Academy of Tobacco Agricultural Sciences. The participants in the meeting, in accordance with progress in research under projects of cooperation, discussed achievements, breakthrough points and orientation of innovation in the research of Tobacco VAM VA positioning, interacting protein, black shank, China-U.S. joint cooperation in tobacco breeding, etc. They delivered academic reports to exchange views on epistatic complex traits, QTL positioning, flavonoids biosynthetic, genome adversity corresponding, wild grass adjustment, fight against black shank, green tobacco production, prevention and control of pests and other cutting-edge academic issues. They also systematically discussed the orientation and technological support of research under subjects of cooperation, and comprehensively analyzed the focuses and breakthrough points of research of subjects of tobacco sciences. On the sidelines of the meeting, the participants visited the World Tobacco Varieties Park, and sufficiently learned about the powerful strength and rich experience of Yunnan Academy of Tobacco Agricultural Sciences in scientific-technological innovation. They also visited Yuxi Tobacco Farmstead to conduct in-depth exchange of views with the hosts on progress in scientific-technological innovation by the tobacco industry of Yunnan. Besides, the participants conducted on-site verification of tobacco production in fields, and systematically learned about leaf tobacco production field management, structural improvement, biological prevention and control of pests and plant diseases in Yunnan.
