Hungary: Smokers to Buy Less Cigarettes after Tobacco Law, Survey Shows

Twenty-four percent of respondents in a recent survey said they were changing their smoking habits in view of Hungary's recent tobacco concessions law.

The survey, conducted by WEBBeteg.hu and released on Tuesday, revealed that 13 percent of the respondents thought they would not buy cigarettes so often, and smoke less, while 5 percent said they would make less frequent visits to the tobacconist but buy larger amounts of cigarettes each time and smoke as much as before.

According to the survey, the average smoker spends a monthly 17,800 forints on cigarettes, one in two respondents calling this too much.

The survey suggested that the relative high cost of cigarettes and restrictions in the new law may encourage more smokers to quit. Enditem
