Hungary: Survey Finds Government''s Tobacco Concession Decisions Unpopular; Most Would Annul Results  

The tobacco retail tender is unpopular with Hungarians, as 60% would annul the results, according to a Medián survey commissioned by consultancy Policy Solutions.

The weekend poll found that only 20% support the government's handling of the issue and 50% consider the outcome political rather than based on business considerations.

Among government supporters, 25% suspect corruption in the tender. Overall, 43% said friends and relatives of Fidesz won the tobacco retail licences, 26% do not, and 28% have no opinion on the matter.

More broadly, 56% say it should not be up to the government to decide on the allocations of licences, while 18% disagree. Enditem
