Armenia Sees Upturn in Cigarettes Export over 2 Years : Ameria

Armenia jumped in cigarette export within 2011-2012, deputy chief of consulting management at Ameria CJSC Karen Martirosyan said Wednesday.

He noted this sphere is dynamically growing and has even further potential for advancement.

"25% of Armenian cigarettes is exported to Iraq, 17% -Russia, and nearly 19%- EU," Martirosyan unveiled the results of Ameria's research of food, drinks and cigarettes. 

According to the research, domestic demand for Armenian cigarettes is slightly lower than the export demand.

Martirosyan highlighted Armenia imports tobacco goods mainly from the EU member states, Russia and some other CIS countries. Armenia's Customs service reported total of 3860,2 million cigars, cigarillos and cigarettes were exported in 2012 versus  1414,3 million in 2011. The customs value of the exported tobacco goods stood at $41.8 million, which was 2.5 times or by $25.5 million higher from 2011.

According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, tobacco production in Armenia in 2012 valued at 25.4 billion drams,  57.1 percent increase from 2011.

Thus, Armenia produced 6155 million cigarettes, which was 83.2% or by 2794,5 million more, compared with 2011.
