Cigarette Price Rise to Lessen Smoking Rate in New Zealand

According to a survey taken out by a group of University of Canterbury (UC) researchers, it has been revealed that 33% smokers and especially Maori and Pacific smokers are ready to quit smoking if nicotine electronic cigarette are available.


The survey results revealed that 83% smokers liked the nicotine electronic cigarette equivalent to their brand. Not only people are ready to quit smoking if nicotine electronic cigarette gets available to them but also if cigarette price gets doubled.
 
Lead researcher Randolph Grace with team carried out a survey. After assessing the survey responses, they got to know that smokers are ready to quit smoking if a packet of cigarette will cost $24 and 75% will quit at the time when cigarette pack will cost $40.
 
The survey result was based on the answers of 300 smokers who took part in the survey from four different cities. The survey was taken out in Dunedin, Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch.
 
It is said to be one of a kind survey carried out in New Zealand to know the intentions of people about smoking in coming time. The research was funded by the three different organizations named as End Smoking NZ Trust, the Canterbury Community Trust and University of Canterbury. Enditem
