China: First Biggest Water Sources Programme to be Built in Sichuan Liangshan Source from: TobaccoChina Online 01/09/2013 Huidong Xinma water source progrmme kicked off in Sichuan on Dec. 30, 2012. Liu Mingshu, deputy director of Lianshan People's Congress committee attended the opening ceremony and announced the start of the programme.
Wang Qiang, Secretary of Party Committee of Liangshan, gave a speech at the opening ceremony. He pointed out that, this programme is the first biggest water source programme approved by State Tobacco Monopoly Administration in Sichuan Province, and it is the biggest single programme since leaf tobacco production facilities establishment carried out in Liangshan county. Tobacco industry invested 83.6151 million yuan to this programme. When the construction of the programme is completed, it will have a water holding capacity of 8 million cubic maters. The reservoir will additionally irrigate 29500 mu (1966.67 hectares) of farmland and improve irrigation for 25500 mu ( 1700 hectares) of farmland, and will guarantee safe supply of drinking water for 20,000 local farmers.
