China: STMA Delegation Inspects HongyunHonghe Group

A high-level delegation from the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA), led by Deputy Director-General Zhao Hongshun and Tobacco Monopoly Department chief Cheng Jiahua, inspected HongyunHonghe Tobacco Group in southwest China’s tobacco-producing Yunnan Province – the largest Chinese tobacco manufacturer – on December 14, visiting production facilities and giving instructions on brands development.

During the inspection, the delegation went to the new site of Kunming Cigarette Factory of HongyunHonghe to visit leaf tobacco cutting lines, cigarette making lines, distribution lines and the tobacco culture exhibition hall at the factory, where Zhao elaborately asked about the operation of production equipment, production management, the annual production capacity, quality control, etc.

In talks held during the inspection, HongyunHonghe Board of Directors Chairman Yao Qingyan reported to the delegation the situation of development of HongyunHonghe and the revised planning for the development of competitive cigarette brands in the 2011-2015 five-year period, and expressed the hope that the STMA will extend greater policy support to HongyunHonghe in future development.

Yao pledged that HongyunHonghe will, closely in accordance with the strategy of “promoting cigarette production and marketing to higher levels”, keep improving the structure of brands, strengthen the maintenance and upgrading of product quality, further increase the value of brands, and strengthen, enlarge and refine the Yunyan cigarette brand.

After hearing the reports, Zhao pointed out that as a leading key cigarette brand of the tobacco industry of China, Yunyan has the potential to enlarge its annual production capacity to a high of 5 million cases (250 billion cigarettes). Therefore, Yunyan should strive to become a cornerstone for the “532” and “461” brands development strategies of the STMA, and should make greater contribution in the drive to promote cigarette production and marketing to higher levels, he said.

Zhao expressed a three-point hope on the development of the Yunyan cigarette brand:

Firstly, there should be firm determination in the development of competitive brands.

Second, the orientation of development of competitive brands should be adhered to, and the “two-wheel drive” of total quantity growth and structural improvement should be realized.

And thirdly, there should be firm confidence in the development of competitive brands.

Zhao promised that the STMA will do all it can to support the development of the Yunyan cigarette brand as it has always done. He also expressed confidence in future development of HongyunHonghe. Enditem
