In 1956, Yuxi Cigarette Factory, the predecessor of Hongta Group was founded.

In 1958, the first pack of "Hongtaishan" cigarette was produced.

In 1973, the cigarette brand "Yuxi" was built.

In 1981, as the first domestic tobacco enterprise importing advanced foreign equipment, Yuxi Cigarette Factory bought Molins MK9 - 5 cigarette unit from the UK. Since then, it has successively introduced various kinds of advanced equipment for cut tobacco processing, cigarette making, packaging and filter forming from countries like Germany and Italy to keep the most advanced cigarette making technologies in China and even the world.

In 1986, the theory of "Taking Tobacco Field as the First Workshop", which has deeply influenced the development of China's tobacco industry was put forward.

In 1995, Hongta Group was founded based on Yuxi Cigarette Factory. So far, Hongta has built 4 subsidiaries of Hongta Group Yuxi Cigarette Factory, Hongta Group Chuxiong Cigarette Factory, Hongta Group Dali Cigarette Factory and Hongta Group Zhaotong Cigarette Factory; controlled Hongta Liaoning Tobacco Co., Ltd. and Hainan Hongta Cigarette Co., Ltd.; and held shares in Changchun Cigarette Factory. Besides, following the diversified development strategy, Hongta has totally invested 16.816 billion on 65 enterprises including 8 wholly-owned enterprises, 15 fully-owned subsidiaries and 42 equity participation enterprises covering the fields of energy, transport, finance & securities, tobacco auxiliary materials, biological pharmacy, electromechanics, building materials,  hospitality property and so on.

In 1996, the sales volume of "Hongtashan" cigarette reached the historical high of 44.8 billion sticks and "Hongtashan" topped the "Most Valuable Brands in China" and keeps consecutively for 7 years.

In 2005, Hongta's 3 brands of "Hongtashan", "Yuxi" and "Hongmei" won the title of "China Top Brand", Hongta Group has the most of the title in China tobacco.

In 2007, the sales volume of "Hongtashan" cigarette broke through 50 billion sticks.

In 2009, the 100 billionth sticks of "Hongtashan" cigarette and 25 billionth sticks  of "Yuxi" cigarette rolled off the production line.

In 2011, the first pack of organic cigarette Yuxi (Manor) was produced.

In November 2011, the 150 billionth sticks of "Hongtashan" cigarette and 50 billionth sticks of "Yuxi" cigarette rolled off the production line.
