Specialty Cigar Shop Plans Ballantyne Location

Tinder Box of the Carolinas has its eye on Ballantyne.

The specialty cigar shop and lounge has signed a lease for a 1,200-square-foot location in Ballantyne Village.

Tinder Box sells handmade cigars from around the world as well as pipes, tobacco smoking accessories and other gifts.

The shop is slated to open in May, says owner Craig Cass.

"We're very excited about it," he says. "Ballantyne is a fabulous area with a quality demographic."

Cass opened his flagship Tinder Box location in SouthPark mall in 1987. He also operates locations in the Arboretum in south Charlotte and in uptown Charlotte's Overstreet Mall.

He says the Ballantyne market is currently under-served.

The location will have an upscale feel, including a humidor made of Spanish cedar, he says.

Says Ed Camp, general manager of Ballantyne Village: "We're excited to have a destination store that also provides a great place to relax and enjoy fine cigars. That certainly adds to our overall branding of creating a fun and relaxing atmosphere to enjoy all the great things about living in our area."

The Tinder Box shop replaces another cigar business in the center, which had closed.

Keely Simerville of MPV Properties handled the deal for Ballantyne Village. Enditem
