UK: Federal Cigar Celebrates 94th Anniversary

Federal Cigar celebrated its 94th anniversary Saturday, March 14, with an event at its new, upscale, 4,000-square-foot cigar shop and bar in downtown Portsmouth.

Drawing more than 200 people, the anniversary celebration put a spotlight on the famed cigar shop's extensive collection of rare and exclusive cigars, while also featuring appearances and new cigar releases by several of the leading figures in the cigar world, including Pete Johnson of Tatuaje Cigars, Jaime & Janny Garcia of My Father Cigars, Ernie Carrillo of E.P. Carrillo Cigars and Robert Caldwell of Caldwell Cigars.

As part of the anniversary event, Federal Cigar also hosted an anniversary dinner pairing delicious local cuisine with exclusive, high-end cigars.

"We are extremely proud to celebrate our 94th anniversary as the oldest continuously run cigar shop in New Hampshire in our beautiful, new cigar bar and shop," said Rick Gadway, co-owner of Federal Cigar, which has locations in Plaistow, Epping and Dover, as well as the flagship location in Portsmouth. "This milestone was the perfect opportunity to highlight Federal Cigar's storied history as a center for politics, current events and town business, while also connecting more than 200 cigar enthusiasts with some of the leaders of the cigar world."

As part of the anniversary event, Federal Cigar released its own 94th Anniversary cigar, which was developed by Quesada Cigars specifically for Federal Cigar.

To create the ultimate cigar lover's paradise, Federal Cigar renovated a former 1700s-era mercantile building. The finished bar and lounge highlights the historic architecture, exposed original brickwork, stone foundation, and structural beams, giving the bar a distinctive feel, reminiscent of a speakeasy. The incomparable downstairs cigar bar boasts a 75-inch high-definition television, a diverse selection of high-end liquor and local craft beer, an oversized smoke exhaust system, 60 cigar lockers, granite tabletops, and comfortable leather seating.

Federal Cigar had most recently been located just steps away at 22 Ladd Street. The cigar shop more than quadrupled its size when it opened its new shop and bar on Portsmouth's famed Market Street in August 2014. Enditem
