Fat La Flor Added to Ligero Lineup

An extra fat La Flor Dominicana is on its way to cigar shops.

The La Flor Dominica 707 Ligero, packed with Dominican tobacco grown on Litto Gomez's farm in La Canela and held together with a dark, Ecuador Havana wrapper, is shipping this week to retailers across the United States.

The seven-inch-long, 70-ring-gauge cigar is the largest regular production smoke ever put out by La Flor. The 770, which is part of the company's Ligero line, is actually a reblended and repackaged version of a smoke made earlier this year for members of the Tobacconist's Association of America (TAA) trade organization.

Gomez put more strong filler in this cigar. "I changed the blend," Gomez told Cigar Aficionado. "It's a little fuller bodied, and it's distinctively different."

The smoke comes packed in boxes of 10 and retails for $10.50 per cigar.

Gomez joked that making such a fat cigar was straining his tobacco inventory. "We don't have any ligero any more-it's all in that cigar," he said with a laugh.

To keep up with demand, Gomez keeps expanding his growing operations, and he said that he was adding more land to his farm this year.

"Every year I get a new piece of land," he said. "You have to plan ahead."

Gomez, who owns La Flor Dominicana with his wife, Ines Lorenzo-Gomez, has been making cigars for 20 years. Enditem
