New Zealand: Psst! The Man with the Plastic Bag Has the Cigarettes Source from: Tobacco Reporter 08/22/2012 ![]() The operator of a chain of supermarkets in New Zealand has asked its Auckland staff to place packs of cigarettes into plastic bags before handing them to customers, according to a New Zealand Herald story.
A law came into effect last month banning tobacco retailers from displaying cigarettes and tobacco packs to the public, and most such products are now hidden from view in cupboards behind the counter.
But Foodstuffs – the operator of supermarket chains Pak'n Save, New World and Four Square – has gone one stage further so as to ensure that non-smokers never have to see cigarettes in-store.
The story did not spell out the environmental impact of the new rules. Enditem
