Imperial Signs MoU With Moldovan Customs

Imperial Tobacco has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the customs authority in Moldova as part of its continuing commitment to combat illicit trade, according to an Imperial press note. 'The MoU formalises the existing co-operation between the two parties aimed at increasing the efficiency of measures to counter the incidence of non-duty paid tobacco products,' the note said. 'Under the terms of the agreement, Imperial and the Moldovan customs authority will work more closely together by meeting regularly to exchange information on seizures of illegal tobacco products and organising joint education and training initiatives.' Eugene Walsh, general manager for Ukraine and Moldova, said that having a formal relationship with the customs authority was an important step forward in enshrining joint responsibilities and demonstrating both parties' commitment to tackling illicit trade in the region. "It is vitally important that we continue to disrupt illegal supply, which damages all legitimate stakeholders," he said. The MoU in Moldova represents the 21st such agreement between Imperial and national authorities. Enditem
