China: City Tobacco Industry Inaugurates New Logistics Center

The tobacco industry of Chengdu City in southwest China's Sichuan Province held a grand ceremony on December 15, 2011 to inaugurate its newly built logistics center, which is one of the largest and the most information-based logistics centers operated by the tobacco industry in China.

Covering a total area of 120 mu (8 hectares), and with a total construction area of more than 40,000 square meters, the new logistics center has an annual cigarette sorting and distribution capacity of 600,000 cases (30 billion cigarettes). It has enough room reserved for future extension of business to multiple and interregional logistics distribution. The new logistics center integrates various modern equipment and technology. A great deal of the equipment and technology has been the most advanced in China. In an address delivered at the ceremony known as the symposium on operation of the new logistics system, Deputy Director Song Jun of Chengdu City Tobacco Monopoly Administration said that after entry into operation of the new logistics center, Chengdu City Tobacco Monopoly Administration, which doubles as Chengdu City Tobacco Company, will, in accordance with the target of turning itself into a modern trade company, unswervingly embark upon the path of perfection, digitalization and integration, attach greater importance to intelligent management, strive to develop a new logistics operation model of "comprehensive sensing, comprehensive coverage and whole-process control", and manage to provide better service for both manufacturing enterprises and cigarette retailers. Completion of the construction of the new logistics center signifies a substantial step adopted by the tobacco industry of Chengdu City from traditional commerce toward modern physical distribution. The entry into operation of the new logistics center will contribute to injecting new vigor and vitality into development of the local tobacco industry and promoting its operation to a higher level.
