China: Xinyang City Tobacco Company Starts Construction of Logistics Center Source from: TobaccoChina Online 10/17/2011 ![]() Xinyang City Tobacco Company in central China's Henan Province held a grand ceremony on October 11 to lay the cornerstone for the construction of its logistics center, in efforts to upgrade the establishment of cigarette storage and supply network system of the local tobacco industry.
At the ceremony attended by leading officials and representatives from all the competent departments concerned, Deputy General Manager Xu Dequan of the Henan provincial branch of China National Tobacco Corporation declared start of the project of construction of the logistics center.
With a total investment of 88.9 million yuan (14 million U.S. dollars), the project of construction of the logistics center covers a total area of 70 mu (10.9 hectares). When its construction is completed, the logistics center will have a total construction area of 14,000 square meters. It will be a modern logistics center of the local tobacco industry integrating the functions of cigarette storage, sorting, coding, allocation and distribution.
The establishment of the logistics center will contribute to significantly solving the problems that the cigarette supply distribution centers in Xinyang City are scattered in different places, that the management of these centers is inconvenient, and that the centers are of a low efficiency in sorting, allocation and distribution. It will also contribute to improving the provision of service for the more than 20,000 cigarette retailers in the city, and will be of great significance to promoting development of the cigarette marketing network system in Xinyang City to a higher level.
