China: Tobacco-producing region to build new distribution center Source from: Deyang Daily newspaper 01/05/2009 ![]() Southwest China's Sichuan Province - one of the key tobacco-producing regions in China - is in the process of building a new modern tobacco distribution center in Deyang City of the province that was hit hard by a devastating earthquake on May 12, 2008, in an effort to enhance the competitiveness of the local tobacco industry.
On December 22, a ceremony was held in the Economic and Technological Development Area of Deyang City to lay the cornerstone for building the new Deyang Tobacco Distribution Center, with a total investment of 40 million yuan (5.7 million U.S. dollars).
Construction of the new tobacco distribution center is a post-earthquake rehabilitation project approved by the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration and the Sichuan Provincial Government.
Covering a total area of 9,539 square meters, the future Deyang Tobacco Distribution Center will be capable of allocating and distributing 6 billion cigarettes (120,000 cases) annually.
The general designing of the tobacco distribution center is in compliance with the policies of "Putting People First", "Harmony between Man and Nature" and "Sustainable Development". With a novel design, the tobacco distribution center will be an open and digitalized modern tobacco distribution center, and will be a landmark project for the tobacco industry of Deyang. Enditem
