Red Double Happiness Maintains Status as Famous Trademark

The Red Double Happiness - a longtime well-known cigarette brand of Shanghai Tobacco Group in east China - is among a list of 136 registered trademarks of Shanghai City that were officially recognized as the 10th batch of famous trademarks of Shanghai City on January 9. The list of the 136 trademarks includes 70 well-known trademarks such as the Red Double Happiness that had their status as famous trademarks renewed upon the expiration of a three-year term, and that are regarded as having broad prospects for future development and growth. Besides, Wang Baohe, the trademark of the Wang Baohe Restaurant operated by Shanghai Tobacco Group, also ranked among the list of the 136 trademarks. The aggregate amounts of sales, corporate profits and taxes generated by the 70 trademarks in 2004 respectively grew to 59.9 billion yuan (7.38 billion U.S. dollars), 15.9 billion yuan (1.96 billion U.S. dollars) and 18.2 billion yuan (2.24 billion U.S. dollars), up 69 percent, 170 percent and 104 percent over 2001.
