Chinese Tobacco Manufacturer Develops New Medicinal Cigarette Product

Nanyang Cigarette Factory in central China's Henan Province has succeeded in developing a new cigarette product using herbs of the traditional Chinese medicine, known as Qunyinghui brand medicinal cigarettes. Results of technical tests conducted by the national-level authoritative Zhengzhou Tobacco Research Institute indicate that the content of acrylamide and nitroso detected in deferred smoke from a Qunyinghui brand medicinal cigarette is lower that from general cigarettes by 30 percent to 50 percent. Acrylamide and nitroso are two major substances in cigarette smoke harmful to human health. The successful development of Qunyinghui brand medicinal cigarettes has been hailed as a great contribution to solution of the three technical questions hampering the development of cigarette products using medicinal herbs – how to determine the composition of medicinal herbs in manufacturing cigarettes and how to increase the effect of medicinal herbs in cigarettes to human health; how to detect from cigarette smoke the content of effective medicinal herbs in medicinal cigarettes; and how to substantively lower the content of harmful substances in cigarette smoke while striving to reduce the content of tar.
