Padilla Launches Two Anniversary Cigars

Padilla Cigar Co. is celebrating two special dates with a pair of anniversary cigars. The first cigar, simply called Padilla Anniversary, celebrates the company's 14 years of business. The second smoke, Padilla Anniversary 85th Heberto Padilla, honors the legacy of famed Cuban poet Heberto Padilla, father of brand owner Ernesto Padilla.

"We were officially incorporated in April 2003," Padilla told Cigar Aficionado. "We're coming up on our fourteenth year here. We were planning on doing a special blend, an anniversary blend."

Padilla Anniversary wears a Honduran Habano wrapper over a Nicaraguan Corojo ‘99 binder and Nicaraguan fillers. The cigar is rolled at Raices Cubanas in Honduras and is shipping in six sizes: Robusto, at 5 inches by 54 ring; Toro, at 6 by 54; Torpedo, 6 1/2 by 52; Double Toro, 6 by 60; Churchill, 7 by 50; and Salomon, a large double-taped figurado at 7 1/4 by 60. Padilla Anniversary retails for $9.25 to $14.

"The other Anniversary cigar is very different," Padilla said. "It wears a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. It's to celebrate the 85th birthday of my father."

Born in 1932, Heberto Padilla would have turned 85 years old next January. The poet, who was once imprisoned by the Fidel Castro regime for his critical writings, passed away in 2000.
