PDR Cigars To Release Wicked Pugs

PDR Cigars will be putting out a series of fat, pigtailed perfectos called Wicked Pugs, and they feature a Cuban-seed Brazilian wrapper called Cubra. An extension to PDR's Small Batch Reserve series, Wicked Pugs come in three sizes, all with a 60 ring gauge: No. 1, measuring 4 inches by 60 ring; No. 2, at 5 by 60; and No. 3, a 6 by 60. They're slated to retail from $9 to $12 and come packaged in 12-count boxes. According to brand owner Abe Flores, the numerical naming convention was inspired by the "old Cuban style" of ascribing numbers to cigars.

"When I went to college in Massachusetts, my roommate used to have a pug," Flores told Cigar Aficionado. "The poor thing only drank light beer and leftovers. We tried to give him water and dog food, but he just didn't like it. "That's my wicked pug,' my roommate used to say. People in Boston say ‘wicked' a lot. And the fat shape of these cigars reminded me of that beer-drinking pug."

Under the Brazilian wrapper, each cigar is rolled with a Dominican Criollo '98 binder and filler tobaccos from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. They're made in the Dominican Republic at Flores's PDR Cigars factory. They come in both Rosado and Maduro wrappers and will debut at the upcoming IPCPR trade show in Las Vegas. Enditem
