New Casa Turrent Brands Coming In March Source from: Cigar Aficionado 02/26/2016 Last year, A. Turrent Cigars released Casa Turrent Serie 1901 to the U.S. market, a cigar line honoring the birth year of brand owner Alejandro Turrent's grandfather. Next month, the company celebrates two more landmark years in the Turrent family history with the release of Casa Turrent Serie 1942 and Casa Turrent Serie 1973. "When we decided to create the Casa Turrent brand, we wanted to use our San Andre?s maduro wrapper as a highlight," Alejandro Turrent told Cigar Insider. "But at some point, we also wanted to feature our Criollo wrapper as well. Serie 1942 and Serie 1973 allow us to highlight more of the tobaccos we grow." Hailing from a long line of cigarmakers and tobacco growers, Turrent is known as the preeminent grower of Mexican tobacco. His trio of Casa Turrent brands allow him to showcase some of the different varieties of tobacco his family cultivates. "Serie 1942 is a reference to my father's birth year," Turrent said. "It uses the same San Andre?s colorado maduro wrapper as the 1901, but from a lower priming. It's silky, very different." Serie 1942 combines a Mexican Criollo binder with fillers composed of viso from Nicaragua, as well as Mexican tobaccos grown from Criollo seed and San Andre?s Negro seed. The cigar is adorned with white and gold cigar bands. Serie 1973 alludes to Turrent's own birth year. The cigar is draped in a Mexican San Andre?s Criollo wrapper, with a San Andre?s Criollo binder and Nicaraguan and San Andre?s Criollo fillers. The cigar wears blue and gold cigar bands. Both Serie 1942 and Serie 1973 will ship in the same three box-pressed sizes as its predecessor, Serie 1901. Those sizes are: Robusto, at 5 1/4 inches by 50 ring gauge; Torpedo, 5 1/2 by 50; and Gran Robusto, 5 3/4 by 52. The cigars are rolled at the Casa Turrent factory in Mexico and will retail from $8.50 to $9.50. "We are shipping the new lines near the end of February," Turrent said. "They should be in stores by the second week in March." Unlike previous cigar lines from Turrent, which have been distributed by Altadis U.S.A., these will channel into the U.S. market via A. Turrent Cigars. Enditem |
